New Digital Tour Guide for the Acropolis to Launch in March 2026
A new digital tool is set to enhance the visitor experience at the Acropolis of Athens. The official Digital Tour Guide application will be released to the public in March 2026, offering an advanced and accessible way to explore the archaeological site. The project is being developed by H.O.C.R.E.D. in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0”, with funding from the European Union's NextGenerationEU program. The application will be available free of charge to all visitors.
A New Step in Greece's Digital Transformation of Cultural Sites
The upcoming Digital Tour Guide is designed to provide a modern and structured interpretation of the Acropolis, one of Greece's most significant cultural landmarks. Although the full list of features has not yet been published, the application is expected to include comprehensive historical information, thematic explanations, and contextual details that help visitors better understand the site's monuments and their significance. This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize visitor services and increase the educational value of Greece's archaeological heritage through digital tools.
Benefits for Visitors and Cultural Tourism
For years, travelers have relied on printed guides, standalone audio devices, or third-party apps to enrich their visit. The new official application introduces a standardized and reliable resource, ensuring accurate, consistent, and high-quality information directly from the country's cultural authorities. Its launch is expected to support both first-time visitors and returning travelers, offering a deeper and more coherent understanding of the Acropolis.
Looking Ahead to March 2026
The release of this digital guide marks an important milestone for cultural tourism in Greece. As visitor numbers continue to grow, the introduction of a state-supported digital companion reflects a forward-looking approach to heritage presentation and site accessibility. Beginning in March 2026, travelers will have the opportunity to complement their visit with a tool that provides richer insights into the history, architecture, and cultural importance of the Acropolis.
